YoTop10

Building

Community product · My role: Built

What it is

YoTop10 is a community rankings platform where anyone can create, share, and vote on top-10 lists across any topic — music, movies, tech, travel.

Why it exists

Rankings are one of the oldest forms of community content, but the existing options were either dead forums or template quiz sites. YoTop10 exists to make creating and voting on ranked lists fast, shareable, and fun.

What I did

  • Designed and built the full product end-to-end
  • Rebuilt the platform multiple times as the product vision matured
  • Owned architecture, frontend, backend, deployment, and SEO

Technical decisions that mattered

Rebuild as investment, not failure

Each rebuild traded quick patches for a cleaner data model and a faster voting UX. The lesson: a rebuild is worth it when the domain model itself was wrong, not just the code.

SEO-first list pages

Every list page renders server-side with structured metadata — rankings content is exactly the kind of thing search engines index well when it's crawlable.

What I learned

Shipping is the easy part; keeping a community product alive is the actual work.
